Here at MD Paving we just know how much you will be using your outdoor space for entertaining. Or maybe for long relaxing nights, parties and family get-togethers and more. So whether your patio is just plain or dated, we have some great suggestions for ways in which you can patio upgrade and make the most of your space.

Upcycle Old Furniture

If you have any old pieces of furniture, why not consider them for your patio upgrade? There are so many ways in which you can convert them into something wonderful – sometimes all you need is a little imagination and a fresh coat of paint.

Indoor Accessories

We know many accessories aren’t waterproof, but you can still bring them out to entertain your guests when the weather starts to shine. On a beautiful day, why don’t you grab some blankets and cushions and add some decoration.

Invest in Outdoor Rugs

For a great splash of colour, add a patio rug. Choose one that is made for outdoor weather and you’ll be sure to make the whole area more inviting.

Add some privacy to your patio upgrade

You can easily do this, by investing in some outdoor curtains. They look fantastic if done right and can be hung from an overhang, attached to wooden beams or even incorporated into your pergola structure. They will instantly add some intimacy to your outdoor space.

Why not paint over old brick?

Brick is a wonderful background material, very strong and sturdy and looks great in certain settings. It can look even better if you give it a fresh coat of paint, but make sure you use something high quality and pick a shade that is classic and will compliment your area.

Set the Mood with lighting

There is more you can do with lighting than standard wall or flood lights. Opt for fairy lights or a string of edison-style lightbulbs which you can hang around your patio edges. Another great idea are large pendant lights, hung from shepherd’s hooks.

Colourful planters are a big WOW

Bright coloured pots with lush greenery will look just fab in your patio. Remember to water them regularly, or for added ease false plants can look just as good.

Ever thought about a fountain?

If you have space on your driveway or patio area, then why not invest in a water fountain to add overall ambience. Use pavers or stones to create a base and you can decorate with mosaic tiles. You’ll love listening to the constant trickle of water – very relaxing!

Music is a must!

It’s pretty essential to have the right tunes whilst your entertaining, so why not install some outdoor speakers into your patio so that you can listen any time you want. Make sure you use wireless speakers that link to your system inside.

Create a focal point for your patio upgrade

Last but not least, choose an area where you want everyone’s eye to go to. You could add a bold set of chairs, a gazebo or fire pit and you’ll have an amazing entertaining space, that will be the envy of every neighbour.

Are you looking at your driveway and thinking what is the best time of year to upgrade it? Is it cracked, overgrown or worn down and you’re wondering if now is the best time to pave it?

Well there is a good reason why your driveway should be paved in certain weather conditions and Springtime is just perfect!

One of the best times of year to resurface or pave your driveway is during Spring and into the Summer months. So laying asphalt or concrete is better when the temparature is warmer. It makes the mixture more manageable, giving you a smoother surface.

Paving can be done in cooler weather, but it’s so nice to be outdoors in the warmer weather and appreciate your outdoor space once it’s been laid.

There are so many styles to choose from such as Indian Stone, Block Paving, Gravel/Crushed Stone, Tarmac or Asphalt, Bricks, Resin (bonded or bound) and cobblestone.

We have a fantastic gallery of work created by the MD Paving team, but these are just some of what we have created.

If you think Springtime driveway will transform your property, then MD Paving can help you start designing your perfect driveway. You need to think about:

  • The shape of your driveway, curved or a sweeping shape.
  • Borders for a contrasting edge.
  • Patterns and colours which compliment your home.
  • Installing pathways and steps as a feature or practicality.
  • Plant flowerbeds to add extra greenery and colour.
  • Install security equipment to protect your driveway and property
  • Add outdoor lights to illuminate your driveway at night.

With the right installation and design, a new Springtime driveway will be a beautiful addition to your home. It will transform the feel and look, but most importantly add value!

Driveway accessories – block paving finishing touches

MD Paving use a number of kerb and driveway accessories to finish off your project. Edging, not only looks great, but is a must to prevent the laying course material from escaping. The units, which are laid along the perimeter, also help to support any weight bearing loads. They help contain lateral loads and prevent the rotation of the paving blocks. Plaskerb has a fantastic range to which MD Paving frequently use.

Edge Restraints

These include a range of small, large and weathered special units, which are suitable for a variety of paving jobs. They come in various tones which such as charcoal, brindle, red and buff. Weathered kerbs available in peak stone and granite stone.

Radial Blocks

Radial blocks are designed to reduce the need for splitting on site. They come in different sizes and profiles. They are available in various colours and are designed to compliment Plaskerbs existing range.

Channel Blocks

Designed to specifically help with drainage of clear standing water in most domestic driveways. As most driveways are paved with conventional concrete blocks (which are impermeable) a drainage surface water system needs to be installed.

Como Circle Setts

Ideal to use as the centre feature of a circle and to finish off the edges. Great design to any driveway or patio.

Mobility Kerb

Designed with accordance to guidelines for disabled access, a must for anyone with disabled needs.

Unsightly ironwork such as manholes can be covered by a soldier or stretcher course of block. This is used to make a feature instead of an eyesore. If the manhole cover has straight sides, then a stretcher course should be butted up against the unit. Alternatively, a cover which is recessed can be incorporated into the block laying pattern.

All of the above driveway accessories will give your block paving a professional finishing touch!
